DorDor Coaching

What is coaching?

Come with a goal. Come with a question.Come with “I have absolutely no idea.”There’s room for all three.

Coaching is a conversation with purpose.

It's a space to look at what's happening, what keeps showing up, the stories and beliefs shaping how you see things, and what you want moving forward.

Sometimes a different question or a different perspective is enough to see something you couldn't see before.

When life changes we need to change with it.

For more than two decades, I've worked as an executive and producer in documentary film and television, listening, asking questions, navigating complexity, understanding people and finding the thread.

A good story is rarely obvious at the beginning. It emerges slowly, through attention: what someone says, what they leave out, the patterns that keep returning and the moment when something finally comes into focus.

That way of listening has shaped my work, and it has shaped me.

And then there's life.

I'm an immigrant, a mother, an executive, a former wife and current partner. I've built a career, raised children, started over, experienced loss, loved again, questioned myself and changed my mind more than once. I've learned that the stories we inherit about who we are can be powerful, but they are not always the whole story.

Eventually, I realized that my professional experience, my lived experience and my fascination with people were all leading me somewhere new. The questions I had spent years asking in my work — What is really happening here? What has been overlooked? What else might be possible?  were also the questions I wanted to bring into conversations about change.

Today, through DorDor Coaching, I'm an ICF Certified Coach and Martha Beck–trained Wayfinder Coach. My approach is warm, direct, curious and practical, with room for complexity, honesty and humor.

Sometimes you have to open a few drawers.

Coaching with me is conversational - honest, thoughtful and practical.

We start with wherever you are.

A life transition. A relationship. A career decision. A question about what comes next. We start with what matters to you now.

We build greater perspective.

We notice patterns, consider different points of view and look at what else could be true. Sometimes changing the angle changes the whole story.

We ask unexpected questions.

We look at the stories we tell ourselves, the beliefs we've collected along the way and the assumptions that may be shaping what we see, or limiting what feels possible.

We explore possibilities.

We look at what you want, what feels right for who you are now and the choices and possibilities that might come next.

Where we can go.

There's a lot that makes up a life.

Relationships. Work. Family. Identity. Transitions. Choices. Dreams. The practical stuff. The complicated stuff. And everything in between.
It's all worth talking about.
Here are some of the places we might go:

“I have loved partnering with Dorin as my coach. She provides a safe open space for me to process all my of thoughts while helping to guide me along my journey to accomplish my goals. Working with Dorin has challenged my old ways of thinking and allowed me to create new ways of solving problems and create the change I need to have in my life. If you need a coach that will move you in the direction you need, to create positive change in your life, or to improve your relationships then I highly recommend Dorin. You won’t be disappointed."

Conversations about being human

DORDORNYC started during a chapter of big change in my own life  and grew into a place to talk about all the things that make us who we are.

Relationships. Identity. Friendship. Parenting. Dating. Expectations. Fear. Reinvention. Endings. Beginnings. And everything interesting and complicated in between.

Sometimes I talk with guests. Sometimes it's just me, thinking out loud, asking questions and exploring the stories we tell ourselves.

Apparently, I've been asking questions for a while.

Loads of questions?
Loads of answers.

What is coaching?

A conversation with purpose.

It's a space to explore what's happening, see things from different perspectives, identify what matters to you and decide what you want to do with what you discover.

Do I need to know exactly
what I want to work on?

No.

You might arrive with a specific goal. You might arrive saying, "I have no idea. I just know something needs my attention." Both are great places to start.

What can we work on?

Relationships, career, leadership, transitions, communication, boundaries, identity, family dynamics, decision-making, reinvention — and whatever life happens to be presenting you with.

Do you give advice?

My role is to ask, listen, reflect and sometimes challenge you. With your permission, I may bring perspective and experience into our conversations, but coaching stays centered on discovering what works for you.

What's your coaching background?

I'm an ICF Certified Coach and trained through Martha Beck's Wayfinder Life Coach program. I also bring more than two decades of executive leadership and production experience in documentary film and television.

Life coaching or professional coaching?

The context changes. You don't.

Personal coaching may focus on relationships, identity, family or life transitions. Professional coaching may focus on leadership, career, communication, workplace dynamics or decision-making.

Often, the two overlap.

What happens on a discovery call?

We talk. You tell me what's bringing you to coaching. I'll explain how I work. You ask questions. Then we see if we're a good fit.

Simple.
